Recorded in the band’s patented mid-fi sound, Straight Arrows’ new album Surface World offers perhaps a little more nuance than on previous albums.
Sure, the urgency and buzzing 60s punk-inspired energy is well and truly present, as heard in singles “Don’t Shoot Me” and “Fast Product”, but this mingles with moments of the other-wordly, “Shop Window”, and the truly sublime, “Walkin’ Thru My Mind”, across an array of eclectically fitting influences.
Amongst the brilliant chaos lie a few calm introspective moments, “Summer Skies”, before the band subjects the dear listener to another catchy, melodious blast, like the stomping “Peakin” – the whole thing leaving relentless hooks still trailing through one’s mind
