Mr. Joe Jackson Presents: Max Champion In ‘What A Racket!’
Those who are not familiar with the artist may still have listened to his 1982 mega hit “Steppin Out”. And since he has been with us, the artist has written and released more catchy tunes like “Fabulously Absolute” from the 2019 album “Fool”.
In this new project “What A Racket!” Jackson takes on the role of a fictious artist: Max Champion, a representative of the genre known in Britain as “Music Hall”. (in parallel, a similar genre has developed in the States called “Vaudeville”).
The genre originated in 19th century London and became the first popular mass entertainment created by the working classes. The shows featured entertaining elements like magicians and acrobats, people knew all songs and sang along to the stars on stage – these events were parties!
