Happiness And Surrounding Suburbs
It’s been a busy 12 months or so for Ball Park Music…Since being Unearthed by Triple J in 2010 and featured in their Next Crop list as one of the hottest acts to watch Ball Park Music have been gathering momentum and fostering growing support across the country. On air the infectious ‘iFly’ dominated the j’s airwaves mid 2010 with subsequent singles ‘Sad Rude Future Dude’ and ‘Rich People Are Stupid’ receiving similar coverage – both garnering ATB additions alongside strong community radio play. On the live scene the band have also been busy racking up air miles with appearances at Big Day Out, Good Vibrations, support slots with Philadelphia Grand Jury, Cloud Control, Deep Sea Arcade, Hungry Kids of Hungary and Boy & Bear alongside appearing on the triple j Unearthed Triple Rainbow Tour. Throw in a co-headline ‘Super Commuter Tour’ with Sydney-siders Guineafowl and an international jaunt showcasing at Music Matters in Singapore and CAMA festival in Vietnam and it’s hard to believe they have had any time to make their debut album. But made it they have! Entitled ‘Happiness and Surrounding Suburbs’, the album has been an on-going process since the beginning of 2011 with Brisbane producer Matt Redlich at Massive Studios in East Brisbane. As the band comments, it was a one-day-per-week scenario that, while the slow way to go, it certainly gave the band the space and time needed to fully complete the writing process and truly capture a cohesive sound and, most importantly, the true essence and personality of the band.
