Crown And Glory (Music Fit For A Coronation Day Celebration)
This brand-new double album features music of pomp, pageantry, ceremony, and celebration, and is designed to set the mood for this May’s much-anticipated coronation of King Charles III and the Queen Consort, Camilla.
‘Crown and Glory’ houses 42 tracks – over two and a half hours – of British orchestral, instrumental, and choral music from across four centuries.
Music enjoyed at coronations, jubilees and state occasions sits alongside evergreens of the Great British classical songbook heard throughout the year at annual national events such as the Last Night of the Proms. Melodies reflecting the close tie between the monarchy and the armed services also feature, as do select songs and tunes beloved by each country of the Union.
Historical classics such as George Frideric Handel’s epic anthem Zadok the Priest (written for the coronation of King George II in 1727) and Hubert Parry’s I Was Glad (first heard at the coronation of Edward VII in 1902) all prominently. Further popular tracks include Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia, I Vow To Thee My Country and selections from Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks and the Water Music Suites, as well as coronation classics such as Walton’s Orb and Sceptre and A Coronation March, a new rendition of the National Anthem, and unique musical medleys from the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards and the Band of the Coldstream Guards.
Featuring performances drawn from the rich Decca and Universal Music catalogue, artists include Freddie De Tommaso, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and The Sixteen, as well as Sir Bryn Terfel, who will perform at the coronation, and the Central Band of the RAF, whose Fanfare Trumpeters will also take part.
